Contrary to the misinformation given to consumers by some collection agencies and some credit card issuers in the debt collection process, bankruptcy relief is still available to most consumer debtors in financial trouble. To be sure, the enactment of "Bankruptcy Reform" has made Bankruptcy more complicated, time-consuming, and yes, costly. However, relief from the same types of debt, (including credit card debt) remains available as it was before "Bankruptcy Reform". Bankruptcy is still an effective means to stop collection efforts which often cross the line of acceptable practices under the law and become harassment.
